super tight security services in Jacksonville florida

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (CNN) — As more than 80,000 fans pack Alltel Stadium for the Super Bowl on Sunday, dozens of state-of-the-art cameras will be focused on them — and a team of highly trained officers will be alert for suspicious activity.

That’s just one measure set up as part of a massive security apparatus designed to ensure that one of the biggest sporting events in the world is free from danger and terrorism.

More than 50 law enforcement agencies are involved. And they’ll communicate through the “E-sponder system,” a new Internet-based portal system that allows the agencies to share information, documents, and video instantaneously.

“We’ve been planning for 18 months,” said Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford who is overseeing the efforts.

Cameras, trained on key locations, can zoom in, analyze, and catalog shots, making them easier to access later if necessary. The system can zero in on a single seat or an employee in virtually any section.

Officers, most uniformed, but some undercover, will be spread out throughout the stadium.

Patrons can expect to have their bags carefully searched on the way in.

New fences have been erected around the stadium, and traffic has been rerouted to keep cars far from the entrances.

The heavy precautions extend miles beyond the stadium.

There will be a 30-mile (48-km) no-fly zone in the skies above the stadium — so there won’t be any advertising blimps or planes toting banners.

Customs and Border Protection pilots will be among those monitoring for stray aircraft that may wander into the area. Any plane that enters the zone will be tracked, contacted by radio, ordered out, and possibly forced to land for questioning.

Surveillance planes will track all aircraft within a 250-mile radius from the stadium, and authorities will conduct fly-overs to watch for suspicious activity on the ground.

And since the stadium is located along the St. John’s River, a 14-mile (22.5- km) safety zone in the water will be patrolled by several federal, state, and local agencies. Any ships or boats that approach the zone — including small pleasure boats — will be monitored.

“If they’re going too fast or not adhering to the rules we have in place, then we’re going to ask them questions,” said Lt. Cmdr. Dan Deptula of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Authorities are using a forward-looking infrared (FLIR) camera which employs night-vision technology to watch what people are doing in boats, even in the dark.

No water traffic will be allowed within a 400-yard (400-meter) security zone, covering areas nearest the stadium.

Seven ships already in port being used as floating hotels were inspected, with underwater divers examining each hull for anything out of the ordinary.

Roadways in the area will be carefully monitored as well. And Rutherford said if a bus were hijacked even miles from the stadium, cameras could “zoom in and get real close and find out what’s going on in there.”

If suspected bombs or explosives are found anywhere, ready response teams from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives will rush to the area with explosives-sniffing dogs and, if necessary, robots. Federal agents wearing protective suits could also approach the area and get a closer look.

Among those watching the security efforts in Jacksonville are authorities in Detroit, the city that will host next year’s Super Bowl.

“This is huge. I didn’t realize how huge it was until I got down here,” said Detroit Assistant Police Chief Walter Martin. “They components they have to take care of… it’s a lot, it’s a lot. But we’re ready for the challenge.”

The costs for Jacksonville security efforts remains unclear, but authorities say it is clearly in the millions of dollars.

Authorities say their goal is to ensure that all those who attend the game — and the tens of thousands of others who have come for the Super Bowl-related festivities — can feel safe while enjoying their time in Jacksonville.

One pilot with Customs and Border Protection said, “We approach this mission with a great amount of enthusiasm… This is the greatest sporting event we have in the United States. And we’re protecting that event and we’re protecting the American people.”

Security Guard Confirms Late Night Hotel Encounter

A Beverly Hills hotel security guard told FOXNews.com he intervened this week between a man he identified as former Sen. John Edwards and tabloid reporters who chased down the former presidential hopeful after what they’re calling a rendezvous with his mistress and love child.

The Beverly Hilton Hotel guard said he encountered a shaken and ashen-faced Edwards — whom he did not immediately recognize — in a hotel men’s room early Tuesday morning in a literal tug-of-war with reporters on the other side of the door.

“What are they saying about me?” the guard said Edwards asked.

“His face just went totally white,” the guard said, when Edwards was told the reporters were shouting out questions about Edwards and Rielle Hunter, a woman the National Enquirer says is the mother of his child.

The guard said he escorted Edwards, who was not a registered guest at the hotel, out of the building after 2 a.m. Edwards did not say anything while he was escorted out, said the guard, adding that at times the reporters on the scene were “rough on him,” sticking a camera in his face and shouting questions.

The guard did not recognize Edwards at the time of the incident, but said he concluded it was the 2008 presidential hopeful after hearing reports about the incident and finding an Enquirer reporter’s notebook at the scene.

The guard said during the chase the reporters had dropped the notebook, which he picked up. “This book has everything in it on him,” he said, referring to Edwards. The guard later confirmed Edwards’ identity after being shown a photograph.

A former campaign staffer, speaking on condition of anonymity, told FOXNews.com he wishes he were “more surprised” to hear reports Edwards was visiting Hunter. “I’m definitely upset by it. I wish I was more surprised, though.”

Edwards this week has repeatedly refused to comment on the Enquirer report. Asked about it on Thursday at an event in New Orleans, he said: “I have no idea what you’re asking about. I’ve responded, consistently, to these tabloid allegations by saying I don’t respond to these lies and you know that … and I stand by that.”

Edwards spokesmen did not respond to repeated calls by FOXNews.com to respond to this story.

Beverly Hills Police Sgt. Michael Publicker, meanwhile, confirmed Friday that an incident report was filed with the department by two of the tabloid’s reporters. Publicker said that contrary to a published report, a “criminal complaint” was not filed and there are no charges pending.

“It will be looked into,” Publicker said, refusing to say whether Edwards would be contacted as part of a formal investigation. “We’re not going to comment on the investigation,” he said.

Police department spokesman Tony Lee said Publicker told him that Edwards was not named on the incident report.

Enquirer Editor-in-Chief David Perel told FOXNews.com his reporters caught Edwards visiting Hunter and her baby at the hotel earlier Monday evening. Perel said Hunter and Edwards have been occasionally getting together so Edwards can see the baby. Hunter came to Beverly Hills with a male friend, Bob McGovern, said Perel. Hunter and her companion reportedly booked two rooms under McGovern’s name, and McGovern picked up Edwards to bring him back to the hotel.

Perel said Enquirer staff had been given information about the planned Edwards-Hunter meeting, and the tabloid sent reporters to the hotel in anticipation of Edwards’ arrival. According to the Enquirer, Edwards was first spotted being dropped off at the hotel at 9:45 p.m. PT, about 25 minutes after reporters watched McGovern leave the building in his BMW.

Edwards went to Hunter’s room and the two left the hotel together and returned 45 minutes later, Perel said. Edwards reportedly entered her room and stayed there until after 2:30 a.m. PT.

FOXNews.com could not independently confirm the Enquirer’s allegations. Perel also declined to identify where the Enquirer received the information about Edwards’ alleged visits.

Perel told FOXNews.com that after leaving Hunter’s room, Edwards took an elevator to the basement, where he was confronted by two Enquirer reporters. He ran into the bathroom, where he remained until the security guard arrived.

The Enquirer says it has videotape showing Hunter entering the room where she met Edwards, and shows Edwards leaving the same room. However, the Enquirer has thus far declined repeated requests by FOXNews.com to release any photographs or videotape evidence of the incident.

Lynda Simonetti, director of public relations at the Beverly Hilton, refused to comment on the guard’s version of the incident, citing the hotel’s privacy policy.

“We value the privacy of all the guests,” Simonetti told FOXNews.com, adding, “The non-disclosure policy applies to the requests of the names, whether it’s past, current or anticipated guests… That’s our policy.”

Simonetti said she had “no knowledge” of the incident report filed by the two Enquirer reporters, and “I don’t have any knowledge of any other circumstances.”

As recently as last month, individuals vetting vice presidential candidates for Barack Obama had listed Edwards as a potential running mate. Edwards was viewed as a candidate who could help Obama appeal to white, working-class voters who had favored Hillary Clinton in the primaries.

Edwards, who was John Kerry’s running mate in 2004, endorsed Obama in May, saying the presumptive presidential nominee held the same views he did about uniting a divided America.

Before and during the Democratic primaries, Edwards urged all candidates to boycott planned debates on FOX News, even though he had made prior appearances on the channel. One of those debates was to be sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus.

Last October, the Enquirer reported that several sources said a former campaign worker on Edwards’ campaign had been having an affair with the former North Carolina senator. In an e-mail allegedly written by Hunter to a friend, she wrote that she is “in love with John,” but it’s “difficult because he is married and has kids.”

Edwards’ wife Elizabeth, whom many have credited as being one of the driving forces behind Edwards’ campaign, announced in March that her breast cancer had re-emerged after going into remission following a 2004 diagnosis.

Hunter has said that the father of her child is former Edwards campaign official Andrew Young. The 41-year-old married father of three has also said he is the father.

Wackenhut Security Guard Miami Caught Stealing During Security Services

Police: Wackenhut Security Guard Steals From Metrorail Courtesy Fare Boxes

MIAMI — By Jeff BurnsideNBC6 Investigative Reporter

A Wackenhut security guard has been charged with stealing money from Miami-Dade County Metrorail passenger courtesy fare boxes.

Miami-Dade County’s Public Corruption Investigative Bureau said it secretly videotaped Fabriciano Baez repeatedly taking the taxpayers’ money.

Some people in positions of power within the county said they’re very angry.

“He ought to be pointing the finger at himself,” said Miami-Dade County Manager George Burgess. “And looking at the mirror and feeling pretty disgusted with what he sees.”

Baez was a Wackenhut security guard hired to protect Metrorail riders and protect taxpayers’ property. There are hundreds of security guards working Metrorail, many of whom do good, honest security services and work. But, police said, not Baez.

“He did have somewhat of a routine that he would go through to carry out this crime,” said Miami-Dade police Detective Juan Villalba.

A Miami-Dade County Transit Revenue Collections manager noticed Baez being recorded by security cameras in the pre-dawn hours, blocking the camera’s view at the change machines. Repair crews found the change machines jammed and fixed them.

Days later, Security Guard Baez appeared again, standing against the change machines. Crews found the change machines jammed again and notified police.

The case report from the Miami-Dade Public Corruption Investigations Bureau described how detectives doing surveillance watched Baez show up for work early before trains even began running. Police surveillance video allegedly showed Security Guard Baez methodically unfolding the passenger brochures, kneeling down by the cash box and dumping the money onto the brochure.

Police said he takes $30 to $175 each time. Police said he did it over three years at many train stations, which would mean taking thousands of taxpayer dollars.

“Sadly, you’re going to have people that try to cheat, that are going to try to steal, that are trying to make a quick buck the wrong way,” Burgess said. “It’s up to us to never, never like it, accept it or tolerate it.”

Police said Baez would jam something into the change machines that allow passengers to buy tokens and get change back. Taking those machines out of service meant more passengers had to use the user-friendly fare boxes installed as a courtesy to riders when change machines aren’t working. Wackenhut Security guards watch passengers put dollar bills into a slot, and then allow them through the turnstiles.

But, police said, Baez somehow rigged a special key to open those cash boxes.

“He found a way to get into the courtesy collection box,” Villalba said. “He would take that money out and keep that money for his own gain.”

Police said Baez confessed to everything once he realized he was caught on surveillance video.

“And it’s a shame,” Villalba said. “But that’s the way it is.”

Miami-Dade County is proposing to increase fares on Metrorail, but not due to theft.

Baez, whose lawyer did not return repeated calls made by NBC6 investigative reporter Jeff Burnside, is charged with grand theft and burglary. He will appear in court on June 2.

Florida Security Guard Plans To Challenge Disney By Bringing Gun To Work

florida security guard florida security guard servicesFlorida Security Guard

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — A Disney Florida security guard told Eyewitness News he’s okay with being fired rather than go to work unprotected. Disney claims it’s exempt from a new state law that allows security guard employees to keep handguns in their cars.

The employee Eyewitness News talked with is not concerned about safety at the park. He’s concerned about a rise in crime everywhere else.

As a Florida security guard, Edwin Sotomayer works strange hours and says he has a right to feel safe when he is commuting to and from the theme parks. He has been a Disney Florida security guard for more than 13 years, but he’s willing to lose his Florida Security guard job to stand up for his right to bring a gun to work

“I am going to be a test tube of this new law. If I am the first one to get fired at Disney, let it be,” he said.

Disney claims it’s exempt from a new state law allowing employees to carry guns in their cars because it stores fireworks, but Sotomayer says Disney is violating his rights and he plans to challenge the company Friday by putting his gun in a case and keeping it in his car while he works security at Animal Kingdom.

“It’s the law and the law is there to protect me. I hope somebody is listening to me up there too,” he said.

Sotomayer said he wants to be able to protect himself from Orlando’s growing crime problem

Channel 9 found a 43 percent increase in the number of calls for service to Disney in the last year, but also found the Orange County Sheriff’s Office didn’t file a report on most of the calls. Deputies said they will not file a report if the incident does not rise to the level of a crime.

Sotomayer said Disney is safe, but Orlando is not, and he has the right to keep a gun in his car so he is protected during his 23-mile commute to and from the theme park.

“The criminals don’t care. If they have to kill someone, they will,” he said.

Disney told Eyewitness News it respects Sotomayer’s opinion, but safety is its top priority and employees who bring guns to work risk getting fired. Sotomayer has already hired an attorney.

He is not the only one who is upset. The NRA and the State Attorney General have also received complaints. by wftv.com
